Monday, April 16, 2012: Last week, Huawei launched Huawei Honor and Huawei IDEOS X5 smartphones in the Indian market. And it is now looking forward to announce its first quad-core smartphone as well as a quad-core tablet in India. The company is expected to launch the Huawei Ascend D smartphone and the Mediapad FH D by August.
Talking to EFYTimes, Anand Narang, marketing director, Huawei Devices, said, “Ascend D quad-core series has been announced and it is said to be the fastest smartphone series yet. It will be available in India in the third quarter. Also, the dual-core Ascend P1 S smartphone will be available sometime in June.”
The Huawei Ascend D was announced at the Mobile World Congress 2012 (MWC) in February in Barcelona. The Android 4.0-powered Ascend D has been much hyped as the fastest quad-core smartphone. It features an 8 MP rear camera and a 1.3 MP front camera for voice chat with a screen size of 11.4-cm (4.5-inch). The device is fully equipped with connectivity options like Bluetooth, HDMI, Wi-Fi and USB.
On the other hand, the Huawei Ascend P1 S smartphone that is powered by a dual-core processor, features a 10.9-cm (4.3-inch) super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. It is also equipped with an 8 MP rear camera and 1.3 MP front camera along with a dual LED flash. The smartphone has a microUSB 2.0, GPRS, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi and has a dual-core 1.5 GHz Cortext-A9 processor. The device was announced in January at the Consumer Electronics Show 2012.
The company is also looking forward to launch the quad-core Mediapad FH D in India by August. “The quad-core tablet announced at the MWC is going to enter the Indian market sometime in the beginning of third quarter, i.e., in July-August time frame,” said Narang. The tablet runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and sports a 25.4-cm (10-inch) multi-touch capacitive display. It features a 5 MP rear camera and a 1.3 MP front camera.
As for the pricing of the products in India, Narang said, “It is too early to comment on the prices right now as we do not even have a sample piece in India yet.” He also added that at present, the company is targeting the higher segment but over a period of time, it will enter the mid and low-end segment as well with the right strategy.
So, we might just see a low-priced tablet from Huawei soon.
